Meet Arbab

Arbab (right) shares a laugh with IFHope Ag Director Ahmad Said.

Arbab is a prominent local farmer. He raises mostly wheat but also eggplant, okra, tomatoes and other vegetables. In 2004, he changed 12 hectares into orchards, planting 3119 almond, apricot and citrus trees from the IFHope nursery.

"Arbab is a model grower" says Chief of Operations Jim Du Bruille. "He receives technical assistance and adopts new farming practices then shares what he learns with his neighbors."

Arbab and neighboring farmers see the benefits of working with IFHope. Wheat from the 2004 harvest was damaged by rust. Arbab was the only farmer in his area to grow wheat without rust because he had planted improved seed from IFHope.
